(UTV | COLOMBO) – The decision on whether to lift or extend the travel restriction currently in place, will be taken at the COVID-19 Task Force meeting held today (18).
Head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOPCO), Army Commander General Shavendra Silva said that today’s COVID-19 Task Force meeting will focus on the travel restrictions imposed in the country and several other areas pertaining to the travel ban and whether further restrictions should be imposed during the forthcoming long weekend.
An island-wide travel restriction was imposed on 21 May due to the rapidly spreading third wave of the pandemic. Despite a decision being taken to lift the travel ban on 28 May, it was extended till 07 June.
The Government thereafter announced that the travel ban will be extended once again till Monday (21).
