Nanjiani to play Chippendales Founder

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Kumail Nanjiani will play Chippendales founder Somen ‘Steve’ Banerjee in an eight-episode Hulu and 20th Television-produced limited series titled “Immigrant”.

The series follows the true story of Banerjee, a Bombay-born Indian-American entrepreneur who turned a LA dive bar into a multimillion-dollar male revue sensation.

This darkly comedic crime-ridden story built on musclebound G-string clad dancers is being written by Robert Siegel and Mehar Sethi, and executive produced by them along with Nanjiani, Dylan Sellers and Chris Parker, Emily V. Gordon and Rajiv Joseph.

This marks Hulu’s second true events-inspired series from Siegel, the first being the currently shooting “Pam & Tommy”.

Ben Stiller and Dev Patel were previously working on a film about the story with Patel to play Banerjee. Discovery+ has this week ordered four-part true crime docuseries “Curse of the Chippendales” which is being done by Oscar and Emmy-winning filmmakers Simon and Jonathan Chinn.
