No countrywide lockdown – Army Commander

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Chief of Defence Staff, Army Commander and Head, National Operations Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) General Shavendra Silva said that there was no plan to impose a complete countrywide lockdown at present. However, he said that localised lockdowns would be imposed in various Grama Niladhari Divisions and Police divisions based on the requirements.

Speaking to the Daily News, he said that 16 Grama Niladhari Divisions in Kalutara and Polonnaruwa districts have been placed under isolation orders.

Meanwhile, he said that there was no need for the public to panic as the health authorities were prepared to handle the situation at hand.
