(UTV | COLOMBO) – The Leader of the All Ceylon Makkal Congress (ACMC), Parliamentarian Rishad Bathiudeen yesterday (15) responded to a statement made by State Minister Dilum Amunugama regarding Adolf Hitler.
Pres. Gotabaya Rajapakse and former PM S. W. R. D. Bandaranaike were both elected on the promise of nationalism. Dilum Amunugama has claimed Rajapakse must be more like Hitler. Mapitigama Buddharakkitha Thera also had a similar desire from Bandaranaike, and we know how it ended. pic.twitter.com/uLqBQJi9KT

“President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and former Prime Minister S. W. R. D. Bandaranaike were both elected on the promise of nationalism. Dilum Amunugama has claimed Rajapaksa must be more like Hitler. Mapitigama Buddharakkitha Thero also had a similar desire from Bandaranaike, and we know how it ended,” the former Minister tweeted.
Addressing a press briefing, Amunugama said that the 6.9 million who voted for President Rajapaksa at the Presidential Election expected a ruler like Hitler, and that the Government is facing criticism from the public as they do not see the Hitler they expected.
Ambassador of Germany to Sri Lanka, Holger Seubert also warned Sri Lanka against wishing for a Hitler after the State Minister expressed a wish for President Rajapaksa to act more like Hitler.
I‘m hearing claims that “a Hitler“ could be beneficial to Sri Lanka today. Let me remind those voices that Adolf Hitler was responsible for human suffering and despair beyond imagination, with millions of deaths. Definitely no role model for any politician!

The Chief Incumbent of the Abhayarama Temple in Colombo, Ananda Muruththettuwe Thero too criticised the statement made by Amunugama.
“We condemn such statements, and if anyone is telling the President to be like Hitler, I am sure the public will respond to such comments,” the Thero emphasised.
