Special operation to arrest individuals driving under the influence during festive season

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The Police Headquarters informed all Police Stations island-wide in a circular that a special operation to arrest drunk drivers during the forthcoming festive season were to commence with immediate effect.

The operation would be in force until 20 April, the statement stated.

Since the rate of motor accidents and consequent deaths are on the rise, the Police Department has deployed around 8,500 Police Officers to arrest individuals who are driving under the influence, who are responsible for most road accidents in the country, the statement stressed.

The Police Department has warned all drivers not to drive under the influence of liquor as stern legal action would be taken against them, the Police Headquarters added.
