Wimal barred from making defamatory statements against Rishad

(UTV | COLOMBO) – An injunction order against Minister Wimal Weerawansa issued by the Colombo District Court from making defamatory statements against Parliamentarian Rishad Bathiudeen.

The order was issued when a petition filed by the Leader of the All Ceylon Makkal Congress (ACMC) was taken up for consideration this afternoon (16). The order will remain in effect until 31 March.

Weerawansa and the 3 television stations have been cited as respondents in the petition. The respondents are noticed to appear before Court on 30 March.

Former Minister Bathiudeen has further filed a complaint with the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) against a public statement made by Weerawansa.

Weerawansa claimed that both former Minister Bathiudeen and his brother had been in touch with Zahran Hashim, who believed to have masterminded the Easter attacks in Sri Lanka.

Speaking to media after filing his complaint with the CID, the ACMC Leader strongly denied the allegations made against him as being politically motivated.

Former Minister Bathiudeen challenged Weerawansa to prove the allegations raised against himself and his brother, and emphasised that he trust the CID will immediately commence investigations into his complaint.

He further called on the CID to initiate legal action against Weerawansa following the completion of the investigation.
