Prime Minister reviews progress of rural housing projects

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa inquired into the progress of rural housing projects at a Rural Housing and Construction State Ministry progress review meeting, yesterday.

The event was held at the Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs Ministry’s auditorium, the Prime Minister’s Media Division stated in a communiqué.

The Government has spent Rs.5.25 billion for the construction of 6,745 rural houses last year. Meanwhile, 14,022 rural houses are to be constructed this year.

Of them, 1,917 houses are currently under construction, the statement read.

The Prime Minister also inquired about the housing project for parents of the Maha Sangha.

Two thousand houses are to be set up under the project. Fifty of them are under construction, the statement added.
