“Sons of Anarchy” creator sets “The Beast”

“Sons of Anarchy” creator and “The Shield” writer Kurt Sutter has been set to write, direct and produce the drama feature “This Beast” for Blumhouse Productions and Netflix.

The story unfolds in an 18th century English village besieged by a mysterious and elusive beast that has slaughtered dozens of innocents and whipped up the villager’s anxiety into a puritanical fanaticism.

The impossible task of killing the beast falls to a lowly trapper who promises he can stop the carnage – a man with a deeply personal reason to wipe out the monster.

The story is reportedly inspired by the true story of The Beast of Gevaudan, a man-eating animal or animals (thought to be a wolf or wolf-dog hybrid) who terrorized a French village in the 1760s and killed up to several hundred people.

Sutter will make his feature directorial debut on the project which Jason Blum and Carla Hacken will produce. Sutter has dipped his toes in features before, writing the Jake Gyllenhaal-led boxing drama “Southpaw”.
