Search continues for head of woman killed by Buttala SI

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Search operations are continuing along the Kelani River to find the head of the woman who was recently killed by a Sub-Inspector (SI) attached to the Buttala Police.

Police Spokesperson, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Ajith Rohana said it is suspected that the head of the woman may have been stuffed in a bag and abandoned in the Kelani River by the suspect.

The Sub-Inspector who had brought the decapitated body in a travelling bag to Colombo has committed suicide.

He has been found dead hanging near his house in Badulkumbura.

The victim has been identified as that of a 30-year-old woman from Kuruvita.

DIG Rohana said that the body was discovered inside a travelling bag abandoned at Dam Street in Colombo on Monday (01).

The body was wrapped in polythene and stuffed inside the travelling bag.

Surveillance footage showed an individual moving around the area with the bag before abandoning it. The suspect had transported the bag in a passenger bus plying from Hanwella.

The bus conductor and driver have confirmed that the suspect had travelled in the bus with the bag.

Investigations revealed that the Sub-Inspector and the woman had moved into a guest house on 28 February in Hanwella.

On Monday, only the suspect had been seen leaving the guest house with a travelling bag in which the decapitated body of the woman was stuffed.

DIG Rohana said that investigations revealed the murder was committed in the guest house.
