Sub-Inspector linked to decapitated body found dead

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The Sub-Inspector attached to the Buttala Police Station who had brought the decapitated body in a travelling bag to Colombo has committed suicide.

He has been found dead hanging near his house in Badulkumbura.

The victim has been identified as that of a 30-year-old woman from Kuruvita.

Police Spokesperson, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Ajith Rohana said that the body was discovered inside a travelling bag abandoned at Dam Street in Colombo on Monday (01).

The body was wrapped in polythene and stuffed inside the travelling bag.

Surveillance footage showed an individual moving around the area with the bag before abandoning it. The suspect had transported the bag in a passenger bus plying from Hanwella.

The bus conductor and driver have confirmed that the suspect had travelled in the bus with the bag.

Investigations revealed that the Sub-Inspector and the woman had moved into a guest house on 28 February in Hanwella.

On Monday, only the suspect had been seen leaving the guest house with a travelling bag in which the decapitated body of the woman was stuffed.

DIG Rohana said that investigations revealed the murder was committed in the guest house.
