Pakistan Premier welcomes Sri Lanka’s assurance to allow burial of COVID-victims

(UTV | PAKISTAN) – Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan welcomed his Sri Lankan Counterpart Mahinda Rajapaksa’s assurance given to allow burial of those who succumbed to COVID-19.

“We welcome Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa’s assurance given in Sri Lankan Parliament today allowing Muslims to bury those who died from COVID19,” the Premier Khan tweeted.

The Leader of the All Ceylon Makkal Congress (ACMC) Parliamentarian Rishad Bathiudeen expressed his gratitude to the Premier Khan for his concern towards Sri Lanka, “Especially the issues faced by the minority communities.”

The Pakistan Premier is scheduled to visit Sri Lanka at the end of this month.

Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Ambassador Saad Khattak also in a Twitter message stated that the decision to allow burial of COVID-19 Muslim victims by the Government of Gotabaya Rajapaksa is widely welcomed across the Muslim world.

The decision will surely address the anxiety of Muslim community leading to greater ethnic harmony on the island, the Ambassador further added.
