New centre for rehabilitating drug addicts

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Defence Secretary General (retired) Kamal Gunaratne will open the new building complex at the Drug Addicts Rehabilitation Centre, Diganthaya in Nittambuwa today.

It was funded by Chief Incumbent of Attanagalla Rajamaha Viharaya and founding President and abbot of Houston Buddhist Viharaya Ven. Dr. Pannila Ananda Thera.

Ven Ananda Thera is a foremost social worker who channeled billons of rupees to uplift educational, social and health facilities in the country.

The new wing is built to expand the in-house treatment and rehabilitation facilities to 1000 drug addicted persons in line with the Government Policy Statement “Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour”,

The treatment and rehabilitation facilities are expanded under the National Programme on expansion of Treatment and Rehabilitation Services for Drug Addicts.

The rehabilitation centre is run by the Dangerous Drug Control Board.
