Special operation in Western Province to inspect institutions

(UTV | COLOMBO) – A special operation is underway in the Western Province to inspect all institutions.

Police Spokesman Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Ajith Rohana said that the institutions and supermarkets will be inspected to determine if they are complying with the COVID-19 health guidelines as specified in the Gazette Notification issued on October 15, 2020.

“Certain guidelines and health regulations have been promulgated in respect of the institutions. Specially, there are certain guidelines that need to be fulfilled by the administrations of these institutions. A special place should be set up for employees to wash their hands and apart from that a mechanism should be implemented to check body temperature while entering the premises. A list of persons entering the premises should be maintained.

Further, various other health guidelines should be adhered to including maintaining social distancing. Everyone should adhere to these guidelines and regulations, especially the public/private institutions, factories and supermarkets and other facilities that provide services to the public.”

However, the DIG warned that if these guidelines are not adhered to, action would be taken against the administrators of such institutions.

He said the special operation is being carried out jointly by the Police and health authorities.

DIG Ajith Rohana said that the health guidelines cover the steps that need to be taken to ensure that the employees are protected from contracting COVID-19.

The Police requested the management of all institutions to access the Health Ministry website and follow the guidelines issued for each institution, be it a supermarket, factory or office.
