COVAX ready to give vaccines to Sri Lanka – Health Minister

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The Government stated that it is prepared to provide a successful vaccine for COVID-19 for 20 per cent of the population through the COVAX facility.

Minister of Health Pavithra Wanniarachchi said that the Government made the request from the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation (GAVI), the lead partner of COVAX, on 20 July last year for the facility and Sri Lanka is eligible to receive this facility.

She added that COVID-19 Vaccine Committee Chairman and Senior Chief Adviser to the President Lalith Weeratunga is fulfilling the legal background to receive the vaccine.

Wanniarachchi said further that when the Advisory Committee approved one or more vaccines, they will be imported without delay.
