“Creed 2” Helmer up for new “Transformers”

Paramount Pictures and Hasbro Studios have reportedly set “Creed 2” helmer Steven Caple Jr. to direct the planned revamp of the “Transformers” film franchise.

Deadline broke the news, saying that though negotiations have yet to begin he is the top choice among studio executive and producers and a deal should be closed in the coming weeks. Caple has been meeting with numerous execs at the sstudio recently.

Two simultaneous scripts were put in active development in January: one by James Vanderbilt and one by Joby Harold. Harold’s was then chosen and he finished working on it this past summer. Since then the studio began taking director pitches on the next film which follows the five directed by Michael Bay and the spin-off “Bumblebee” from Travis Knight.

The project is separate from the animated prequel in the works which has Josh Cooley linked to direct.
