Over 40,000 currently under quarantine

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Over 40,000 individuals are currently under quarantine process across the country of which nearly 33,000 individuals are observed and monitored by PHIs while 7,128 persons are quarantined in 73 quarantine centres operated by the Army in the aftermath of the Minuwangoda cluster.

Public Health Inspectors Union of Sri Lanka (PHIUSL) Secretary M. Balasooriya told Daily Mirror that out of the total persons under self-quarantine, over 10,000 are from the Gampaha district where the risk is still on.

“The individuals in 13 districts are being observed and monitored by the 1,650 Public Health Inspectors. The districts are Kurunegala, Puttalam, Kegalle, Kandy, Galle, Hambantota, Jaffna, Vavuniya, Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Badulla, Monaragala and Gampaha,” he added.

Meanwhile, the National Operations Centre for the prevention of Covid-19 said, 8,632 individuals are quarantined in 73 quarantine centres operated by Sri Lanka Army. It said out of total individuals, 7,128 were placed under quarantine in the aftermath of the emergence of Minuwangoda cluster.

It also said 56,302 individuals have left the quarantine centres after completing the quarantine process.
