Juwariya Mohideen wins 2020 Front Line Defenders award

(UTV | PUTTALAM) – Juwariya Mohideen from Puttalam has been bestowed the 2020 Front Line Defenders award for Human Rights Defenders at risk.

She is among four human rights defenders to be honoured for their life- threatening work combatting gender-based violence, leading peace-building movements, defending the right of minority groups, and protecting indigenous land.

Mohideen has been undeterred by threats against her and her family, blatant misinformation, attacks on her character, called a traitor, and shunned by parts of her own community.
