‘Repatriation efforts must be effectual’ – Sajith

UTV | COLOMBO – Leader of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya Sajith Premadasa says a suitable programme must be launched by the government to repatriate Lankans stranded overseas owing to COVID-19.

Speaking to media in Nawagampura, Premadasa said the diplomatic service must be awakened in order to assist Lankans in foreign countries.

He stressed thousands of Lankans employed overseas are helpless and they have no reprieve, as diplomatic channels are ineffective.

Premadasa urged the government to facilitate the large number of Sri Lankans who are eagerly waiting to return to the country, while charging there is no stringent system.

The SJB Leader accordingly stressed that full attention must be paid to these groups, and diplomatic services must be reawakened.

He called for the people’s rights to be protected.
