Medicine prices to be reduced

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Five pharmaceutical companies have pledged to reduce the prices of medicines with effect from August, National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA) sources said.

According to sources, the price reduction has been done in response to the letters of cancellation issued by the NMRA. Under the price reduction, the price of Calcivita 50s will be reduced by Rs.138 and Rivotril (2mg) will be reduced by Rs.192.66.

“The letters of cancellation were issued since the five pharmaceutical companies had violated the ‘Conditions of Registration’. The NMRA will not revoke the letters as yet since the legal process needs to be complete,” sources said.

“The NMRA will check if the price reductions are accurate and whether they will be duly implemented. The NMRA had also informed all other pharmaceutical companies to follow the due process,” sources added.
