STF had provided security to rogue narcotic racketeers

UTV | COLOMBO – Deputy Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris making submissions yesterday before the Colombo Chief Magistrate Ms. Lanka Jayaratne, stated that information had been received that some members of the police STF had provided armed security to the suspected narcotic officials involved in the drug trafficking case, and to take necessary court action in that regard.

The Solicitor General stated further that evidence had surfaced relating to some officers attached to the STF which is considered as one of the elite investigation units in Sri Lanka, collaborating with the suspected narcotic officers purely for monetary gains and providing armed security for this trafficking in drugs.

These facts were revealed when the case relating to the instances where the narcotic suspects after taking heroin into their custody during raids and selling them it to drug racketeers was recalled yesterday before the Colombo Chief Magistrate.

Court was informed that the 13 suspected narcotic officers presently detained at the Angunakolapelessa Prison, were not being produced in courts after due consideration for the health requirements under the present COVID – 19 situation.

The Deputy Solicitor General further informed court that presently, 21 suspects including five police officers and three civilians were kept detained at the CID and interrogation was being continued.
