UTV | COLOMBO -Former Parliamentarian and former Western Provincial Councillor Nimal R Peiris arrested by Police over the misuse of Rs.113,460 in postal charges has been released on bail.
He was arrested by the Thalangama Police yesterday and was produced before the Kaduwela Magistrates Court today.
The Acting Magistrate of Kaduwela Kamal Prasanna ordered the former Provincial Councillor to be released on two surety bail amounting to Rs.5 million each.
Meanwhile the suspect was ordered to appear before the Thalangama Police every Sunday.
The Department of Posts launched an inquiry into the non payment of charges for a postal seal obtained by former Provincial Councillor Nimal R Peiris since December 2018.
Accordingly the former Provincial Councillor was arrested last evening by the Thalangama Police following a complaint lodged by the Post Master attached to the Thalawathugoda Post Office.
