UTV | COLOMBO -The Opposition charges the government’s programme to limit imports is a failure.
Former Parliamentarian Harsha de Silva speaking at a media briefing today said the government has in turn created a shortage of goods in the market.
de Silva said the government has banned the imports of many goods, including brake pads and clutch cables.
He added the government introduced laws banning the import for the next six months except for under special provisions.
He claimed the government expects to obtain foreign reserves in order to pay off debt as a result of such actions, adding the government is deceiving themselves.
Harsha de Silva noted the government must commence trade ties with the international community, claiming that putting up walls around the country will not help.
