PHI Unions to decide on union action today

UTV | COLOMBO – Working Committee members of the Sri Lanka Public Health Inspectors Union, representing all districts, have been summoned to Colombo today to decide on future trade union action.

Secretary of the Union Mahendra Balasuriya speaking to a prominent online news portal in the isle said several crucial decisions with the withdrawal of duties related to COVID-19 mitigation efforts will be reached today.

The PHI withdrew from services yesterday in protest of a statement by Minister of Health Pavithra Wanniarachchi that PHI officers will not be granted powers through the gazette notification related to coronavirus health guidelines for the General Election.

Balasuriya said they will focus on discussing their role in coronavirus mitigation efforts moving forward. He added the PHI will reveal to the public its decisions following the meeting that is scheduled for 10.00 am.
