COVID-19 cases in SL rise to 2,687

UTV | COLOMBO – The number of coronavirus cases in the country has risen to 2,687 after 13 new patients were recorded yesterday.

Director General of Health Services Dr. Anil Jasinghe said eight individuals were identified as family members of staff members of the Kandakadu Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre who tested positive.

The eight were housed at the Biyagama Village Quarantine Centre when they tested positive.

Four others were identified as returnees from Qatar who were also in quarantine. Another individual was identified as a returnee from the United Arab Emirates.

Accordingly the number of coronavirus cases reported from the Kandakadu rehabilitation centre including inmates, staff and close associates increases to 541.

851 Lankan returnees are also among the country’s COVID-19 infections while 906 persons are Navy personnel.

168 individuals suspected to have contracted the coronavirus are also under observation.

The number of COVID-19 recoveries is presently at 2,007.
