Wildlife Officers to launch strike tomorrow

UTV | COLOMBO – The Wildlife Officers Association has decided to launch trade union action, in the form of a sick note campaign tomorrow.

All Ceylon Joint Wildlife Officers’ Association Chairman Prabash Karunathilake said the decision to launch trade union action was taken over the failure to grant incentives, to wildlife officers who have been working around the clock for many years, even despite the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in the island.

Karunathilake stressed that although pledges were made to provide the incentive in March, it is yet to be granted.

The Chairman said that although no other state employees lost their lives during the coronavirus period, two wildlife officers had however passed away, therefore lamenting that authorities had not even regarded this turn of events.
