106 COVID-19 cases detected in SL yesterday

UTV | COLOMBO – 106 persons tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday in the country, increasing the number of confirmed infections to 2,617.

Accordingly, Sri Lanka has confirmed more than 100 coronavirus cases in a day, for the fourth occasion. 96 of the new cases are linked to the Kandakadu cluster.

The Department of Government Information said 76 inmates who were transferred to the Senapura Centre from the Kandakadu Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre, 14 individuals who associated persons linked to the Kandakadu Rehabilitation Centre and six residents of Rajanganaya are among the new cases detected yesterday.

Five returnees from Belarus, two returnees from Bangladesh, one individual who returned from the United Arab Emirates and two sea merchants who arrived from Iran also tested positive for COVID-19, yesterday.

According to the Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry of Health the Kandakadu cluster consists of 479 cases.

625 persons who contracted the coronavirus are currently receiving medical treatment, while 99 suspected cases are also under medical observation.

Meanwhile, one COVID-19 patient was discharged from the National Institute of Infectious Diseases yesterday increasing the number of recoveries to 1,981.
