196 more tested positive for Covid-19 at the Kandakadu Rehabilitation Center

UTV | COLOMBO – 196 persons have tested COVID-19 positive at the Kandakadu Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre.

Accordingly including the 56 coronavirus positive cases identified yesterday, a total of 252 persons at the centre are now confirmed to have contracted coronavirus.

The Department of Government Information stated that the positive test results were confirmed among 338 PCR tests conducted on inmates and staff members of the centre.

Director General of Health Services Dr. Anil Jasinghe said while PCR tests continue to be carried out, the likelihood of more positive cases being identified from the Kandakadu Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre remains high.

Accordingly the Government Information Department stressed that all necessary measures are being taken to identify inmates who had completed their rehabilitation process and were released from the centre and all those they associated with, to accordingly subject them to PCR testing and quarantine measures, with the aim of preventing any possible community spread of coronavirus.
