UNP writes to EC over the SJB’s use of colour green

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The United National Party has formally written to the Election Commission to oppose the purported use of the colour green by the Samagi Jana Balawegaya during the 2020 Parliamentary Election campaign.

In a letter directed to the Chairman of the National Election Commission Mahinda Deshapriya, the General Secretary of the UNP Akila Viraj Kariyawasam notes that according to the Constitution of the UNP, the party has been using the colour green from its inception while the SJB party is allocated the colour blue.

He added the newly formed SJB is attempting to deceive UNP members and voters in general, by using the colour green during electioneering activities.

The UNP Secretary General noted, the party is at a disadvantage by the use of the colour green by other factions.

Accordingly, Former Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam sought the intervention of the Election Commission to immediately prevent the misuse of the colour green and other resources of the UNP during the period leading up to the General Election.
