Protests held across the island over pensions

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The organization for the pensioners’ rights protection staged several protest campaigns in main cities across the island including in Colombo this morning.

They charged the present administration of violating the rights of pensioners.

Commenting on the issue JVP Politburo member KD Lal Kantha who was present at the protest staged in Kandy said the government deprived the right of pensions for nearly 150,000 eligible persons.

He added protesters are now demanding their rights by staging protests.

Convener of the organization Ranatunga Mallawarchchi said the payments for several pensioners has not been provided after the present administration came into power.
