Thewarapperuma threatens to withdraw from election

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Kalutara District UNP candidate Palitha Thewarapperuma has threatened to withdraw his candidature because of being constantly harassed by the police since the general election was declared.

He told the media today in Kalutara the police had removed a cutout displayed during the alms giving to mark his son’s death anniversary and had pushed his wife aside. Mr. Thewarapperuma said she was now undergoing treatment at the Nagoda general hospital.

He said he was concerned about the harassment faced by him and others in his family on political grounds and had decided to withdraw from politics and look after his wife and son. He said he believed the Samagi Jana Balvegaya (SJB) was behind these incidents and pointed out that his decision was not motivated by any displeasure with the UNP or its leadership.
