Lankan suspected of murdering family in Qatar

(UTV | COLOMBO – The Airport Police says a Sri Lankan is suspected to have murdered the family of three in Qatar.

The remains of the three Lankans were brought to the country today from Qatar.

The 59-year-old father, 55-year-old mother and 34-year-old daughter, were employed in Qatar.

The family are residents of Biyagama, Kelaniya. Our correspondent said according to documentation, the three were assaulted with sharp weapons and were strangulated.

The remains were handed over to the Negombo Hospital for the post mortem examinations.

The Airport Police said according to family members they suspect the murders may have take place around the 1st of March.

The relatives have stated that they suspect a close associate of the 34-year-old victim to be responsible for the murders.

The suspect has reportedly returned to Sri Lanka from Qatar.

Accordingly, the Airport Police said further investigations have been launched based on the statements by family members.
