‘Efforts underway to incite racism once again’

UTV | COLOMBO- The National People’s Power charges that efforts are underway to incite racism, just as it was at the 2019 Presidential Election.

General Election candidate KD Lal Kantha said a recent statement by Former Deputy Minister Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan also known as Karuna Amman is an example of this fact.

He remarked that Karuna Amman stands with with Gotabaya and Mahinda Rajapaksa, charging that on one side they speak against the Tamil community to garner their votes and then to the other side they speak to the Tamil people regarding Sri Lankan soldiers.

Lal Kantha said that if there was anything progressive in Sri Lanka’s Parliament, it was when there was a power struggle, further noting that when there was a two thirds majority, rulers only did things for their benefit, and not for the people.

He said the public must be cautious and make sure Parliament is balanced, adding that it is unlikely the government will receive 125 seats, given the situation in the country.

KD Lal Kantha called on the public to stand against the government’s decision to suspend salary increases that were scheduled to take place in January 2020.

He stressed that the last time there was a salary increase, for the state sector, was in January 2016, further noting that there has been no salary or allowance increase since then for the state sector and the cost of living has increased drastically.

Lal Kantha stated that Gotabaya Rajapaksa came into power on the promise of prosperity, however the present government taxed essential items.

The former MP said the salary increase that was due to happen this year was suspended.

He therefore encouraged the working class to enforce a struggle and use their vote against the incumbent government.
