100 CMEV observers complete training

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Election monitoring body the Centre for Monitoring Election Violence says 100 observers, who will be deployed at electorate and district levels to cover the General Election, have completed training.

National Coordinator of the CMEV Manjula Gajanayake speaking to media said 100 observers will engage in monitoring duties for the 2020 General Election for an extended period.

He said those received training will serve as independent election monitors for a lengthy period of time under the approval of the National Election Commission and with the assistance of the Sri Lanka Police.

Manjula Gajanayake therefore claimed that he expects accurate election monitoring through their support.

He added that the CMEV was initially concerned that it would be difficult to locate monitors due to the Covid-19 pandemic, however noted that many Sri Lankans had forward to act as election monitors.
