EC issues directives on postal voting

UTV | COLOMBO -The Election Commission has issued a statement pertaining to the manner in which postal votes must be marked for the upcoming Parliamentary Election.

Accordingly those eligible to cast postal votes will be allowed to do so between 9am and 4pm, on the relevant dates that have been announced. Staff at Medical Offices of Health will be allowed to cast their postal ballot at the offices on the 13th of July.

Police personnel, Tri-Forces personnel, officers of the Civil Security Force, health sector workers and staff at all District Secretariats and election offices will be able to cast their postal ballot on the 16th and 17th of July.

The Election Commission said staff at other state institutions will be able to cast their postal vote on the 14th and 15th of July.

However postal voters who are unable to cast their postal votes on the respective dates due to unavoidable circumstances will be allowed to cast their ballot on the 20th or 21st of July, at the relevant District Election Office.
