“SLFP will still win if MS was not Chairman” – State Minister Janaka Wakkumbura

UTV | COLOMBO – State Minister Janaka Wakkumbura says the Sri Lanka Freedom Party would have been a victorious party if former President Maithripala Sirisena had not accepted the party Chairmanship.

Speaking at a media briefing in Embilipitiya the State Minister noted that former President Maithripala Sirisena claimed he would hand over the Sri Lanka Sri Party to a younger individual, claiming that if he had done as he pledged in 2015 and refrained from accepting the Chairmanship of the SLFP then the party would still exist.

Wakkumbura said therefore that Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa would lead the SLFP to victory, further remarking that due to Mahinda Rajapaksa’s efforts the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna was formed and governing power was secured.

The State Minister said that would now be too late for the SLFP to be saved from its fate, adding many individuals have now joined the ranks of the Flower Bud.

He stressed that it will be made clear at the upcoming election as to how the Flower Bud claims victory.

He reiterated that former President Maithripala Sirisena should have done as he pledged much earlier.
