Late Sybil Wettasinghe’s final rights today

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The final rites of veteran children’s book writer and illustrator, the late Sybil Wettasinghe, will be performed today.

Wettasinghe passed away at the age of 92 while receiving treatment for an illness at the Sri Jayewardenepura Hospital on Tuesday night.

Her final rites will be performed at the Borella Public Cemetery. Sybil Wettasinghe’s remains have been placed at a private funeral parlour in Borella while the public can pay their respects till 2pm today.

During her career, Wettasinghe gained international recognition with her children’s stories securing awards both in Europe and Asia.

Among her most famous books are මගුල් ගෙදර බත් නැතො, කුඩ හොරා, උඩ ගිය බබා, පුදුම පලිගුව and අච්චාරු මුට්ටිය.

She also achieved a new Guinness World Record for the most alternative endings for a book.
