No longer mandatory for teachers to remain in school after hours

UTV | COLOMBO – The Ministry of Education says it is no longer mandatory for school teachers to remain at school premises until 3.30pm as schools reopen next Monday for grades 05 to 11 and grade 13.

Issuing a statement, the Education Ministry noted that following the standard timetable was sufficient.

The statement read it was not mandatory for school teachers to remain at school premises until 3.30pm unless extra-curricular work has been allocated to teachers by school Principals.

Meanwhile the Education Ministry has informed all Provincial and District school Heads to reopen schools for all grades from the 06th of July.

The statement noted that schools must direct attention to providing hand washing facilities and must also have an in-house medical unit.

Furthermore, the Ministry had requested parents to prevent sending children to schools if they exhibit symptoms such as fever, cough or phlegm.
