Election ads banned during movie screenings

UTV | COLOMBO –

The National Election Commission has informed the National Film Corporation that publicising election propaganda material of political parties and candidates during the screening of films and during intermissions is a violation of election laws.

The National Film Corporation has informed the Police Headquarters of the decision.

Accordingly, all cinema owners have been informed that the screening of commercials related to propaganda activities is illegal and requested that they refrain from doing so.

The Police said the Acting Inspector General of Police has informed all Police Stations to look into whether the regulation is being followed by cinemas.
