(UTV | COLOMBO) – Director General of Health Services Dr. Anil Jasinghe says he has observed a lax attitude from the public towards health guidelines following the decline in coronavirus cases in the country.

Speaking during a media briefing, Dr. Jasinghe said the public should continue to follow health guidelines especially with the government deciding to re-open the country to foreign visitors.

He said since the 25th of April, no new cases of coronavirus were detected in the community. Dr. Anil Jasinghe said cases have been detected only through the Navy cluster and from quarantine centres.

He said the Health Ministry issued 46 guidelines to contain the spread of the virus in country with focus on social distancing and on safety measures such as washing hands.

The Director General of Health Services noted that the public has taken a relax approach towards health and safety guidelines in the recent days.

Dr. Jasinghe said the public should extend its support continuously to officials in order to contain the spread of the virus.

He also emphasised the importance of following guidelines at private and public offices to mitigate the threat.
