Police operation to remove election posters

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The Acting Inspector General of Police has issued directives to DIGs in charge of all regions in the country to conduct daily operations to remove illegal election posters and cut-outs.

Issuing a statement, the Police Headquarters said directives have been issued to set-up special road blocks and conduct mobile patrols in all Police areas in the country.

Posters displayed on all vehicles including buses and three-wheelers other than on the official vehicle of the candidate will be removed. Police said cut-outs, banners and all types of election posters displayed along the sides of roads and in public places will also be removed.

The Police Headquarters noted that illegal campaigning activities carried-out by using LED screens set-up in public places and in bus stops will also be restricted.
