Warning issued for rough seas & strong winds

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The Department of Meteorology issued an advisory for rough seas and gusty winds, this morning (27).

Wind speed will be (40-50) kmph in the sea areas around the island.

Wind speed can increase up to 60 kmph at times in the sea areas extending from Kaluthara to Pottuvil via Galle, Matara and Hambantota and the sea areas extending from Puttalam to Kankesanturai via Mannar.

Hence, the sea area extending from Kalutara to Pottuvil via Galle, Matara and Hambantota can be very rough at times.

The other sea areas around the island can be fairly rough at times.

Naval and fishing communities are requested to be vigilant in this regard in the above sea areas.

Land areas:

Showers will occur at times in Western, North-western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Southern provinces.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at a few places in Northern, North-central and Uva provinces particularly in the evening or night.

Fairly heavy falls above 75 mm are likely at some places in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle and Matara districts.

The general public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity and localized strong winds during thundershowers
