Commission to look into discrepancies at state banks

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa says a commission will be appointed to look into alleged financial discrepancies at state banks during the term of the former government.

The Office of the Prime Minister said attention will be directed to loan provisions and other matters.

Prime Minister Rajapaksa said the commission is being appointed on the request of the Bank of Ceylon employees union pertaining to alleged discrepancies at state banks.

A special discussion in this regard was held at the Temple Trees last evening, while issues within the state banking system was also discussed.

Concerns related to state employees’ pensions were discussed, while the Prime Minister instructed a committee to be appointed to look into the issues.

Prime Minister Rajapaksa also instructed the Secretary of the Ministry of Finance to take steps to provide the performance bonus to persons for the 2019 financial year.

The Prime Minister advised officials to also take into consideration the difficulties faced owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.
