‘Much considered when selecting SLPP candidates’

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa says several factors were taken into consideration when selecting candidates for the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna.

The Premier speaking at a rally in Kurunegala said attention was also directed to intellectuality and knowledge of candidates of their respective electorates.

He also noted that a good understanding of their area and the country itself were considered, adding furthermore candidates who are well informed of the village, the province and their constituency, will not be ushered into parliament merely to speak well.

The Premier remarked that when they work for the sake of their constituencies through parliament, their tasks will be simpler as they are well informed.

Prime Minister Rajapaksa meanwhile added it is the responsibility of the people to ensure a Parliament that can fulfil the policies of the President is elected.
