Export tax on tea suspended for six months

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The Cabinet of Ministers has decided to temporarily remove export tax imposed on tea exports for six months.

The decision was reached at the weekly Cabinet Ministers Meeting held yesterday.

The main objective of the move seeks to aid tea factories to continue operations amidst challenges faced by the tea industry due to the COVID-19 crisis in the island and address supply management issues and maintain product quality.

Accordingly, the Cabinet of Ministers decided to remove Rs.3.50 per kilo export tax imposed on registered tea exporters for exported tea for a period of six months, as a monetary concession, with the aim of assisting the tea industry to continue to operate with stability.
