“Avatar” sequels have resumed production

Production is officially back underway on the “Avatar” sequels following the COVID-19 shutdown.

Writer/director James Cameron was nearly finished production on the second, third and part of the fourth films in the series in New Zealand when the worldwide pandemic ground everything to a halt.

The New Zealand government’s swift action saw COVID-19’s impact on the country prove relatively limited and recently gave the go-ahead to resume filming on the massive project (though not without minor controversy locally).

Now producer Jon Landau has posted a photo shoting Cameron is back behind a very long crane camera. Landau and Cameron were in self-isolation for two weeks after arriving back in New Zealand and got back to the set this week.

Returning cast includes Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang, Giovanni Ribisi, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Matt Gerald, and Sigourney Weaver. They’re joined by Kate Winslet, Edie Falco, Jemaine Clement, David Thewlis and Michelle Yeoh among others.
