Suspect remanded over accident which killed constable

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The suspect who was allegedly involved in the motor accident that killed a State Intelligence Service Constable who prevented a robbery at the Colombo National Hospital recently, has been remanded until the 19th of June.

Police Media Spokesman Superintendent of Police Jaliya Senaratne said the suspect was remanded after being produced before the Hulftsdorp Magistrate today.

The State Intelligence Service Constable who prevented Rs.7.9 million cash belonging to the Colombo National Hospital from being stolen recently, died in a road accident last morning.

The motorbike the Constable was riding on reportedly collided with a defender down Havelock Road on the 11th of June.

The Constable sustained critical injuries and passed away last morning while receiving treatment at the Colombo National Hospital.

The driver of the defender was arrested yesterday.

SP Jaliya Senaratne said the motorist, a Law College student, was intoxicated at the time of the accident.

The SIS Constable, another Constable and a female Chief Police Inspector chased down the suspect, a doctor who was at the Colombo National Hospital on a training programme, who had stolen the large sum of money and arrested the suspect and recovered the money.
