Rajitha calls for more Central Bank involvement

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Former Parliamentarian Rajitha Senaratne says a leasing mafia exists in Sri Lanka due to shortcomings of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.

The final rites of the Chairman of the Self-Employed Professionals’ National Three-Wheeler Federation, Sunil Jayawardena, who was assassinated, will be performed at the Kesbewa Public Cemetery today.

Speaking to media after paying his respects to Sunil Jayawardene, the former MP said the Central Bank must actively look into financial firms offering leasing opportunities and take precautionary measures to prevent such incidents from taking place in future.

He claimed that if authorities had fulfilled their tasks, Sunil Jayawardene would not have had to intervene.

Senaratne charged that an innocent trade union leader was murdered due to the inability of the Central Bank to intervene and regulate financial institutions.
