Ex-MP clarifies statement on electricity bills

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Former State Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage says a statement he made on a television channel claiming that electricity and water tariffs would not be levied during the months of March and April and that a relief period would be granted to pay it, has been misinterpreted.

He noted that some factions have claimed before media, that he urged the public to refrain from paying their electricity bills for March and April altogether.

He stressed however that the Ceylon Electricity Board never reached such a decision, adding neither did he make any such claim.

Aluthgamage therefore highlighted that he clearly stated a relief period would be granted to pay the relevant monthly bills in order for them to be paid at a later date.

He stressed people’s electricity supply would not be cut, if they failed to pay their bills for the two months in question.
