Rainfall in south-western areas likely to enhance

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Showery condition over the South-western part of the island is likely enhanced to some extent during next few days, says the Department of Meteorology.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in Western, North-western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in Galle and Matara districts.

Fairly heavy falls above 50 mm are likely at some places in Western, North-western and Sabaragamuwa provinces.

Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in Uva province and in Ampara and Batticaloa districts after 02.00 p.m.

Wind speed can increase up to (40-50) kmph at times over Northern, North-central and North-western provinces and in Hambanthota district.

The general public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Sea areas:

Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in the sea area extending from Puttalam to Galle via Colombo.

Winds will be South-westerly and wind speed will be (30-40) kmph in the sea areas around the island.

Wind speed can increase up to (50-60) kmph at times in the sea area extending from Puttalam to Trincomalee via Mannar and Kankesanturai and in the sea area extending from Hambantota to Batticaloa via Pottuvil.

The sea area extending from Puttalam to Trincomalee via Mannar and Kankesanturai and the sea area extending from Hambantota to Batticaloa via Pottuvil can be rough at times. The other sea areas around the island can be fairly rough at times.
