Show new currencies, Bandula poses challenge

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Minister Bandula Gunawardana has made an open challenge to certain factions who claim the government has printed currency notes outside the stipulated process.

Speaking at the weekly Cabinet media briefing at the Government Information Department today, Co-Cabinet Spokesman Minister Gunawardana challenged the Opposition to point to a currency note that contains the signatures of Minister of Finance Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.

Minister Gunawardana said the report was inaccurate, explaining that after Gotabaya Rajapaksa was appointed President, a new Central Bank Governor was also appointed.

He pointed out that a currency note will have two vital factors, the first being the signature of the Finance Minister and the second the signature of the Governor of the Central Bank WD Lakshman.

Accordingly, the Minister challenged those claiming that new currency notes were printed, to produce a single note bearing the signatures of both the Governor and the Minister of Finance, adding the matter would then finally be laid to rest.
